Are we chimps fighting over a banana?

Our stalled progress may be blamed, at least in part, on a true and accurate perception by the extinction risk organizations. That perception is that they are, first and foremost, competitors for the same very limited media attention span and purse of grant monies. They exist independently and are not a community.

Therefore, these organizations are not obliged to work jointly, but instead compete. This is like many monkeys fighting over the prize of a single banana, and not cultivating a banana grove. Extinction risk organizations are many loud and uncoordinated voices hawking themselves in the worldwide non-profit shopping mall. They are not singers in a choir.
