Not a Think Tank
The institute is not a think-tank of moral philosophers. At the institute, we believe that each potential cause of human extinction can be individually scientifically studied, understood, and prioritized. Then, governments absolutely must be involved and made accountable to decide if the risks are either worth mitigating, or else may be studied. monitored and ignored until later.
The Institute teaches that humanity faces a vast range of bright futures to choose from if it can prevent extinction. At the Institute, we believe that the form of today’s humanity deserves to survive until the very heat death of the universe, and beyond. Perhaps modern humans can exist even for hundreds of billions of years, far beyond the paltry 200,000 years of modern humans so far.
There is a public perception about the myriad extinction risks that have been identified by the extinction philosophers.
That perception is that most documented extinction threats are based more often on alarmist and apocalyptic science-fiction doomsday pipe-dreams, rather than on science-fact.
Humanity only has sufficient resources to mitigate a few of the highest priority extinction threats at any one time.
