Mitigations that are being implemented for this existential risk:

Tell the Community

As of the date of this last revision, there are no known funded and proven effective global mitigations already in place for this risk.

Microscopic Black Hole Decay: According to current theories, if microscopic black holes were to be produced in the LHC, they would rapidly decay due to a process called Hawking radiation.

Collision Safety: The LHC collides particles at incredibly high speeds, but the energy concentrated in these collisions is localized and short-lived. The energy released during particle collisions is much lower than the cosmic rays that constantly bombard Earth's atmosphere.

Peer Review and Safety Assessments: The safety of the LHC relies on extensive peer-reviewed research and safety assessments conducted by scientists worldwide.

It's important to note that the scientific community continues to monitor and evaluate the safety of the LHC. Ongoing research and observations help refine our understanding and ensure that any potential risks are identified and addressed.

Risk Priority Number (RPN): In Process DRAFT: (RPN): 10

Who is responsible to mitigate this extinction risk?:

As of the date of this last revision, there are no known responsible government institutions tasked to design and implement mitigations for this extinction risk.
