High Noise Low Signal Smoke Screen:
There are so many risk scenarios, and so very many ununified extinction philosophers clamoring for attention. Therefore, it is not possible to see what is important through the resulting smoke screen. One perceives a murmuring crowd sound completely devoid of any teamwork when one listens to the vast hordes of extinction philosophers independently clamoring for attention with their different proposals. There is high noise but low signal.
As a result, extinction philosophers are now mostly increasingly ignored and disbelieved as in the story of a very small Chicken Little. The hatchling chirps from his tiny barely audible squeaky beak “The sky is falling!”
The risk of human extinction may be the most important awareness to have arisen in the last decade of the history of mankind. Despite that, one notes that only paltry and minuscule trickle funding, almost entirely private philanthropy, is being diverted to the study of extinction. The result of this philanthropy is merely publicity about the already stale knowledge of human extinction. The big money, governments, are not involved.
The Institute for the Prevention of Human Extinction finally focuses attention on the global coordination needed for prioritizing mitigation. See the well known process to actually scientifically and numerically calculate and document the risk and importance of each threat to our existence
